    Co-Founder, @catchtilly & @sister_coffee

    Where are you from?

    I am from Napa California.

What do you do in life?

I make coffee, sell pipes to babes and hang out with as many animals as possible.

One thing that excites you right now:

I am so excited about the colder months coming. I can’t wait for the early sunsets and warm pies in the oven while I’m spending time reading under a blanket with loved ones.

What is your community in Austin like?:

I am so lucky to be surrounded by a really solid group of women who are driven, motivated, kind, supportive and hilarious. We have a good foundation here in Austin to build great friendships while also carve out a place for ourselves.

    Describe your relationship to fashion:

I have always been a mood based dresser. I wear what I’m feeling so my wardrobe is all over the place — which makes packing for a trip nearly impossible.

What do you thing the world needs most right now?

    Virgos and Cancers.

    CEO @rawpawatx

    Where are you from?

Born in Connecticut, Grew up in Texas.

What do you do in life?

I run a media label and art factory called Raw Paw. At work I direct videos, screen print, design graphics for web and print, produce events, and help all kinds of artists to develop and create content. I also have a personal art brand called Secrets of Earth.

One thing that excites you right now:

One exciting aspect of earth right now is the evolution of ideas, specifically in terms of how that takes form through technology. The internet is now live flowing through pocket sized super computers beaming information translated from the entire planet past and present and beyond. In a quick scroll you can find jet packs, space travel, virtual reality, sustainable energy, and gradual social reforms propelled by digital platforms.

What is your community in Austin like?

My community is a strange lot of friendly hardworking dreamers. My friends are always budding the next idea or project, while taking time to enjoy the land, food, and space of mind that is part of Austin’s mystique.

    Describe your relationship to fashion:

I started making and wearing my own clothes when I was an early teenager. That grew into my first brand at the end of high school and then became my full time job right after college and up to this day. I believe that fashion is wearing your thoughts. Everyone is a participate in the sport of it, even the nudists; god bless them. So, today I am constantly working on becoming more aware of my deeper thoughts and ideas and translating that into my work, art, and fashion.

What do you think the world needs most right now?

The human world needs to improve resources of sustainable energy, food, and construction techniques. Our technology has to work more like a tree and that needs to be implemented on an affordable ubiquitous consumer level. We need to continuously refresh religion, so that it doesn’t ostracize certain styles of people or use hope and fear as a means of financial subscription, but works as a unification and celebration of existence, the mysteries, and developer of good works. I believe the governments of the world should be more direct and utilize interconnectivity technology to do a better job of matching resources with the average desires of the people. We should be careful with Artificial Intelligence and make sure it is a platform that is distributed and not held by a few. Plus we should make sure that when we start implementing technology in our bodies we do so cautiously and don’t shock the system. Socially we need to galvanize good behavior and use it to balance the bad of the time. That being said we should be accepting and open to change for the good of one moment could be the bad of the next and it is the variance in the gene pool of everything that encourages progress. Also, we need to obviously diminish the economy of war and redistribute that energy to systems that support people of low means, encourage and make desirable better education, as well as explore the fucking universe. All in all we need to focus more on what the sun does for us and have a good time enjoying our present moments.

    Where are you from?

I’ve lived in many places but at the end of the day no place but Texas feels like home.

What do you do in life?

I live to make things better. To build. I’m a creative individual with a passion for turning big ideas into a bigger reality…
    Art, technology, business, people etc.

One thing that excites you right now:

Seeing the world in a state change. Society is at a place where people are so ready for new radical ideas and something positive to rally around thats its the perfect time for an idealist like myself to share my vision of what the world could look like through art.

What is your community in Austin like?

Slept on. There are a ton of incredibly talented people in Austin that stay low-key.

    Describe your relationship to fashion:

    It’s been effortless.

Long term now… We’re engaged. I grew up wearing Sean John and P. Miller… Today it’s just a more refined and cleaner version of those styles.

What do you thing the world needs most right now?

Less surface level thinking. More credibility and honesty.

We need more transparency from our leaders and more self-reflexivity i.e. deeper thinking about who we are in relation to one another.

I think if we all remain true to ourselves we’ll create a more authentic and meaningful world to live in. I aim to be that example.

    LAURA

    Laura Uhlir
@el_uhlir

    Owner @olive_austin, Co-Owner @catchtilly

    Where are you from?

I grew up in the country just outside of a small East Texas town, Longview.

What do you do in life?

Everything. I’m not great a down time. I own Olive, a women’s clothing boutique in East Austin. I co-own Catchtilly, a progressive, female-friendly smoke shop. I co-directed a bi-annual makers’ market, Feliz. Somewhere in between all that I try to chill with friends, catch a good (or bad) movie, swim and run around with my two dogs.

One thing that excites you right now:

My ever growing collection of vintage Levi’s. That, and watching my community of women grow braver, fiercer, stronger. Let’s smash that glass ceiling! Should I have said that before the Levi’s bit?

What is your community in Austin like?

I am lucky to be part of such an engaged community. Fresh faces stop by Olive all the time with a new idea, a project, something to collaborate on. It really keeps you engaged. Everyone is really supportive of one another’s ideas in my little East Austin neighborhood — I couldn’t think of a better group to be a part of.

    Describe your relationship to fashion:

Familial. Fashion has always been there for me, if that makes any sense. It’s always been my mode of self expression, my creative outlet. I’m a very visual thinker and learner. Growing up in a small, relatively homogeneous town I used fashion to set myself apart from the pack. Now fashion has become a much greater part of my life. In both obvious ways – I own a clothing boutique, duh – and smaller ways – adopting a de facto uniform to make the day-to-day easier, wearing my grandmother’s Mexican silver to feel closer to her, collecting special pieces that I may never wear but consider closer to art. Fashion, though a kind of loaded, vapid-seeming term, is something near and dear to me. If you scratch the surface of fashion there’s typically much more going on than meets the eye. It connects you to the past, present and future. It’s very much like family to me.

What do you think the world needs most right now?

Peace, love and understanding. Elvis (Costello) knows best.

    MARGARET

    Margaret Williamson Bechtold

    @_mwb

    Creative Consultant / Stylist

    Where are you from?

A tiny little town in West Tennessee, outside-ish of Memphis.

What do you do in life?

For work, I’m an independent creative consultant, the Concept Director for a think tank in New York called TOBE, and I do some freelance fashion styling as well.

Life-wise, I’m concentrating on letting Austin into my system and trying to take time, slow down and enjoy the ride.

One thing that excites you right now:

I’m excited to be in a town where people are doing big, creative things while still being low-key and generous with their time. Austin has freed me up tremendously.

What is your community in Austin like?

Growing! I moved here at the beginning of 2016 from NYC and instantly felt at home. I feel like I meet new friends and collaborators every single week.

    Describe your relationship to fashion:

It’s my bread and butter and my midnight snack.

What do you think the world needs most right now?

A Reiki session, a Voodoo donut and the Rachel episode of High Maintenance. And a non-festival weekend in Austin.

    Really good Tacos

What is your community in Austin like?
Progressive, creative, and all about unity. We are all trying to grow and progress together as a community / team and not just individually. The young creatives here are so supportive of one another and I love that so much

    Describe your relationship to fashion:
Fashion has always been very important to me and a major inspiration to my work. Pharrell Williams described it best, “Fashion has to reflect who you are, what you feel at the moment, and where you are going”.

What do you think the world needs most right now?
More open minded and compassionate people
