    Where are you from?

    Oslo, Norway.

What do you do in life?

    Clothing designer

    Something/someone that inspires you?

Most of my work is inspired by very personal and emotional experiences. I also find dance and theater very inspiring.

One thing that you’re excited about right now:

I’m very excited about being back in Norway on holiday! I’m in my best friends bed right now and she’s blowing on my belly. Also the new Harry Potter film!!!

A change/improvement you want to see in the world:

Of course there are so many things, but I think one of the most relevant acts that can be done right now would be for the Wolfpack commission to succeed and add the 28th amendment and get money out of politics. This would lay a good foundation to ease further progress on other issues.

A few words you’d use to describe yourself:

I’m beyond clumsy. I don’t know how I ever made a cent in waitering and also only have one scar. A history of being stubborn, trying to work on it.

What’s your relationship to fashion like?

My relationship to fashion is very ambivalent. I love clothing as an expression and the history and tradition of making it, but there are so depressingly many wrong things with the industry. From the very start of production where cotton farmers have the highest suicide rate in the world, to the false marketing which, as we all know, create impossible to meet beauty expectations.

Would like to say though that last mentioned is making beautiful progress in breaking down gender roles.

    Age:

    I am 19 years old.

    Where are you from?

I’m from Upstate New York — a small town called Athens. It is very much a vacation spot for New Yorkers & Long Islanders… Athens is filled with small Victorian homes and clings to the Hudson; it used to have factories that exported ice from the river.

What do you do in life?

I just started going to art school here in New York. I am working on a collection of poetry where I am combing through childhood memories and trying to make sense of them. I am beginning to teach myself how to program, so I am hoping to start some video and web-based projects soon.

    Something/someone that inspires you?

Recently I have started reading Kathy Acker, who I find really inspiring. She is a novelist who writes about gender, sex, and violence from a very raw and deconstructionist place. Whenever I think about what kind of person I want to be, part of it always involves some kind of punk intellectuality like Acker’s.

One thing that you’re excited about right now

I am excited to start working at Rhizome Magazine next month, where I will be writing on digital art and social media.

A change/improvement you want to see in the world

I want trans women, especially trans women of color, to have more of a public voice and representation in the media. I don’t think the representation that trans people currently have is always helpful to our community. I would say that the politics of women like Caitlyn Jenner are alienating to many trans women who have completely different life experiences.

A few words you’d use to describe yourself: Art girl who casually goes to Hot Topic and thrifts Juicy Couture.

What’s your relationship to fashion like?: I think art has a lot to do with playing around. I love having fun with things that give me bad taste. My aesthetic has always revolved around a femininity that makes you uneasy, like drugstore Barbie dolls or pink crocheted clothing.

    Where are you from?

I’m originally from a glittering planet outside of the Virgo Supercluster.

What do you do in life?

Well, I’m trying to love more, for sure…

I’m a model and an “artist”. I use the term as an umbrella term for many of my creative mediums. I’m currently directing a short film with my close friend and partner in chaos. I think I’m most proud of what of I call my ‘Space Matter’ which are works that can be defined as proper “fine art”. Right now I have some work on my site that’s from an ongoing series called ‘Transgression: A Self-Centered Art Project’.

    Something/someone that inspires you?

I’m inspired by bravery, beauty, love, and individuality. People who dare to feel alive. Those who strive to be completely fulfilled in life. I love people who move through life and make moves based solely on their desires, and not on how their actions will be interpreted by those around them. I think we all need to love harder, value ourselves more, and creatives need to stop producing work they think their audiences wants to see. You can’t push forward that way. I have a few icons who are everything to me, but I won’t name check them.

One thing that you’re excited about right now:

I’m excited about 2016 in general. I’m optimistic about some quite major things that are developing in the new year. I don’t want this to come back and bite me, but it’s shaping up to be the best year of my life.

A change/improvement you want to see in the world:

I hope race relations in this country get a lot better, but I’m worried they’re going to get much worse before that happens. I’ve never felt more labored and exhausted about being a black person in this country. We’ve regressed so much, socially. It’s astonishing. Every non-white race and/or religion experiences a kind of “other-ing”, in the US.

I also want to see trans people be respected in the streets and in legislation; not just in the pages of a magazine. I say that because, yes, it’s true that it’s “cool” to be trans right now and we’re bringing in the cash to these companies for working with us and talking about us, but trust, that many of those same people who want us in their magazine or tv show or whatever 1.) Still don’t understand transness and 2.) Don’t give a shit about understanding transness.

A few words you’d use to describe yourself:

    Loving. Very Emotional. Tunnel-visioned. Political.

What’s your relationship to fashion like?

I love the “fantasy” of fashion. The fashion world for me is a powerful medium for possibility. Clothing is a great way to rebel against a world that tries to crush you into conformity. It’s a way to assert your individuality and independence without saying a word. That’s why I don’t wear what some would call “practical” clothing. I don’t also believe in “nice” clothes reserved only for special occasions or when people deem something “wearable” versus a “runway piece”. If you can get it on your body and still move through your day, then it’s wearable. That’s why my hair looks the way it does, that’s why I dress the way I do. My physical representation is an extension of my artwork. I look like my Space Matter.

    California –> Tennessee –> NYC

What do you do in life?

I take photos and make prolonged eye contact with strangers dogs

    Something/someone that inspires you?

Feeling very inspired by mall goth revival lately

One thing that you’re excited about right now:

I’m currently on a road trip and I’m going to stand in the desert and look at everything and nothing at the same time.

A change/improvement you want to see in the world:

I want people to be able to see themselves reflected in media without it being a big deal.

A few words you’d use to describe yourself:

    weird alien dog

What’s your relationship to fashion like?

I use it as a tool to remind me that I own my body. I also love garments that make me look less human, and have been slowly but surely adding pieces to my closet that create really odd shapes when I wear them

What do you do in life?

I’m an Associate Real Estate Broker and Actor

    Something/someone that inspires you?

    Ilana Glazer & Abbi Jacobson

One thing that you’re excited about right now:

Resuming my acting career after an extended hiatus.

A change/improvement you want to see in the world:

    Secularism & Humanism.

A few words you’d use to describe yourself:

    Passionate. Pugnacious. Empathetic. Energetic. Playful.

What’s your relationship to fashion like?

My relationship to fashion has transformed dramatically in the last couple of years. My personal style used to be very safe and transitory. However, now it is evolved into something more expressive and representative of me. It has become an extension of who I am and a catalyst for expressing myself in the world at large.
